Every year, I try to find something unique to celebrate Creed Taylor Month. The month was so designated by A&M CTI marketing in August of 1968. Originally announced for September that year in Canada, Creed appeared on the cover of the October 5th, 1968 issue of Record World magazine in the USA under the lead “WHO IN THE WORLD”.
To celebrate this year, I have an audio interview courtesy of the “Southern Folk Life Collection” – They hold the “Michael Jarrett Collection for the Study of Record Production, circa 1990-2010” [1]https://dc.lib.unc.edu/cdm/singleitem/collection/sfc/id/66104/rec/6. Jarrett interviewed Creed in the summer of 1994. Michael Jarrett, now retired, was a music scholar and English professor at Pennsylvania State University, he was a regular contributor to Tower Records’ magazine, Pulse! and to jazziz magazine.
A&M’s Jerry Moss and Herb Alpert regard their contract with C.T.I. as ideal. Taylor isn’t a rush producer. He’s a craftsman. When he’s completed an album, whether it’s taken three weeks or three months, if it has the Creed Taylor “Stamp of approval”, the album just has to make it.

As you are aware, the Internet Archive (archive.org) is still offline due to a DDoS hack attack that occurred late last week, and we don’t know yet when it will be back online. It gives me only minor satisfaction to know that the time I’ve taken to build my own research archive of over 10,000 music related magazines has been worth the time and money. I need to start selling magazines on ebay soon…
