Today would have been Creed Taylor’s 97th birthday. I was struggling to decide what to write this year when Doug Payne got in touch to say he had finally found a way to include his magnum‑opus piece on Creed’s CTI productions for A&M. I’ve produced a couple of mixes to accompany the series. The first is included here, and the second will be available next week.
As I’ve noted before, many people are confused about this period of Creed’s work, describing Creed as an A&M employee, and the label as an imprint and various other things. Using today’s vernacular, Creed was a contractor. His contract was to produce jazz-infused popular music to be released by A&M Records.

CTI Album Mix Tracks
This is an all vinyl mix, with most tracks mixed direct from the album tracks. Some of the tracks have shorter single/45RPM versions, these have not been used. Thus, a few of the tracks have the typical vinyl artifacts, clicks and pops, but hopefully not too noticeable.
