I’m slowly (and I mean slowly) working through my CD library of live set recordings. After last year’s “Bob James – All Around The Town” extravaganza [1]http://ctproduced.com/follow-bob-james-all-around-the-town/, I took a break. I’ve sent a few sets over to Kim Paris, who maintains the FM Radio Archive at archive.org. Unless the sets came with explicit details of their broadcast history, I do the legwork to track it down and then send them over to Kim.

Here are five of the most recent live Jazz artist sets in the FM Radio Archive. Each set is embedded and streams from archive.org. Each set playlist has, at the bottom left, a link to the set of the FM Radio Archive. On that page are all the set details and links to download the sets. The sets are in reverse chronological order, newest first.

If you have any live sets that were broadcast on TV or via radio that can be shared, please contact Kim.

Stanley Turrentine KFML Ebbets Field Denver 1975

Jazz saxophonist Stanley Turrentine live at Ebbets Field in Denver, CO on 3.05.1975. This concert was recorded and broadcast by KFML 98.5 FM in Denver, a free form commercial radio station at that time.

In the live set intro to Sugar, and on the intro to “Midnight and You” Stanley mentions that he hadn’t got his “money” from either CTI or Fantasy records. This was a common refrain from musicians in the 1970’s, it took much longer back then to get sales counts in via distributors. Chart success was tailed weekly by music magazines and radio station via telephone and mailed in forms, they were known to be widely manipulated through various forms of payola scandals. Frequently chart success didn’t mean sales and by implication, financial success.

Band Members:
Stanley Turrentine- Tenor Saxophone
John Miller- Piano
Tarawa Macanora- Bass
Bruno Carr- Drums
